Before answering that question…
It’s my first day at blc! So, what am I doing here and what is my role? First off, I would like to give you some information about myself – as a kind of short profile to get to know me. My name is Rebecca, I’m 23 years old and I study in the beautiful city of Cologne, which has been my home for a little more than four years. I completed my bachelor’s degree at the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne specializing in multilingual communication with majors in English and French as well as culture and media.
So it comes as no surprise that languages are somewhat of my second nature (even though there is still much to learn – I definitely want to improve my Italian and Spanish) and that hardly anything gives me more pleasure than to get to know and to experience new and unknown cultures and places. So far I can check Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Italy, Spain and France off my list, but there are many more countries and of course continents I’d like to see with my own eyes.
My studies and my role at blc
However, at the moment my life is mainly dominated by my parttime job at the Musical Dome in Cologne and the work related to my studies. After completing my BA, I decided to remain at the University of Applied Sciences and am currently studying to receive my Master’s degree in terminology and language technology. My time as a student is coming to an end and my Master thesis is the last great milestone ahead of me. And that is exactly why I found my way to blc and why I’m going to stay until the end of September: I’m going to write my Master thesis.
My growing interest and the awareness of the importance of terminology as well as knowledge management is the main force behind it all, and so I want to focus on finding a connection between terminology management and ontologies. The questions “What are ontologies?”, “What are the benefits of ontologies?” and “How can ontologies be used to ensure an efficient and professional terminology management in the modern information society?” are only a few I want to answer and I’m going to dive deep into the topic to maybe even discover some new and interesting aspects.
Today was only my first day at blc and I very much look forward to the months to come – working together with everyone, learning even more not just about the topic of my master thesis but also about myself, broading my mind and hopefully much more.
