XML stands for extensible markup language. XML is a markup language used to organize structured text data. XML is used everywhere in digital language processing, e.g. as a database for the creation of machine translation engines. Well-known examples of XML-based data standards are translation memory exchange (TMX) and termbase exchange (TBX).
